Road Construction Season Opens Monday in Menomonee Falls

The Waukesha County Department of Public Works will begin reconstruction on Silver Spring Drive Monday. Three other significant projects slated to start in summer.

It’s not a season opener that’s as heralded as the Brewers’ opening day, but it’s an opening to a season nonetheless. On Monday, the road construction season in Menomonee Falls kicks off with work on Silver Spring Drive.

This summer, there are four road construction projects that will have a significant impact on traffic in the village. These include reconstruction of Mill Road, Silver Spring Drive, Cleveland Avenue and Park Boulevard.

“Most of these are big enough projects that they will take most of the summer,” said Tom Hoffman, village director of engineering. “These are the projects that will truly affect traffic.”

On Monday, the Waukesha County Department of Public Works begins expanding Silver Spring Road to four lanes from Bette Drive to Jackson Drive, according to a news release from the department. The stretch of road will be completely shut down for three weeks beginning May 2.

Traffic will be open in the meantime along temporary driving lanes, and the speed limit will drop to 25 mph. The roadway will fully open by mid-November, according the county public works department.

The some sections of curb and gutter along Park Boulevard are completely deteriorated, and utility work in 2010 caused the condition of the road to worsen. Starting approximately June 19, the village will install storm sewers and completely reconstruct the road from Pilgrim Road to Hayes Avenue. That project is expected to be completed Nov. 18.

On July 9, construction is set to begin on Cleveland Avenue from Pilgrim Road to Jefferson Avenue. This section of roadway has been the site of 14 water main breaks since 2004. The village will replace the water main as well as the road and sidewalk. This project is also expected to conclude Nov. 18.

Lastly, Mill Road reconstruction from Lilly Road to the Milwaukee County line is slated to begin Aug. 1. The road will include two lanes and outer auxiliary lanes. The road profile will also be flattened for better site distance. This project is expected to be completed May of 2012.
