Schlotzsky's Deli Closes For Good
Owner says costs and customer traffic were primary reasons for closing the deli.
Schlotzsky’s Deli in Menomonee Falls has closed its doors for good Sunday.Â
After 18 years at its Main Street location, owner Dan Gorman will focus his attention on assisting the Brown Deer Schlotzsky’s location moving forward.
The last time Patch reported on the happenings at Schlotzsky’s was June 2011 when Gorman expressed optimism over the Walmart Neighborhood Market project. Gorman was hopeful that the development plans included a remodel for his deli, and would increase traffic.

However, he said he would only stay if it made sense — or cents. And it didn't.Â
Gorman said he left because customer traffic was lower than what was expected at the Walmart, and the costs to repair his building were too high.Â

“The bottom line is, the Walmart business just didn’t bring in the traffic we had expected — granted it is new," Gorman said.Â
He added that the building continued to deteriorate as the construction project continued. The building had fogged windows and rotten subwalls resulting from bricks falling off the exterior. His drive-thru awning was destroyed and was hanging by cables. He lost their pylon sign, lighting in the parking lot, and lighting in the patio was never repaired.Â
“All these things add to it," Gorman said. "The basic condition of the building would probably suggest to people driving by that it's not a real good place to go to eat.
"It just didn't make 'cents,' like (Patch) had reported in 2011."
