2020 DNC Means No Roller Derby In Milwaukee
2020 will be the first year the tournament will take a break since its creation in 2009.

MILWAUKEE, WI — The Brewcity Bruisers will not host the Midwest Brewhaha roller derby tournament in 2020 due to the upcoming Democratic National Convention. Midwest BrewHaHa is an annual Milwaukee roller derby tournament that hosts dozens of roller derby teams from across the world at the UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena. 2020 will be the first year the tournament will take a break since its creation in 2009.
“The summer of 2020 will be huge, with all the preparations going on in advance of the Democratic National Convention. While the DNC will be great for the downtown area, and a fantastic opportunity to showcase the City of Milwaukee to visitors from across the country, it creates challenges for the tournament,” said Rebecca Berkshire, a member of the Brewcity Bruisers Board of Directors in a statement to Patch.
“Midwest Brewhaha typically draws hundreds of skaters from all over the world. Additional security considerations in advance of the DNC and adjustments made by other annual event organizers in the city mean that dates, venues, and hotel rooms will be at a premium next summer.”
