Milwaukee Common Council Votes To Accept $9.7M COPS Grant
The federal grant allows for the hiring of 30 new Milwaukee police officers for three years.
MILWAUKEE, WI — Milwaukee Common Council voted to accept the nearly $10 million federal COPS grant. The move comes after council rejected it last month.
According to the council, accepting the grant comes with some stipulations, which involves the Milwaukee Police Department agreeing to step up "service/performance efforts in several key areas," the council said via Twitter.
Those key areas include improving police response times, taking a proactive approach on crime reduction by participating in community activities, and creating a plan for more resources toward traffic enforcement.
