Milwaukee Medical Examiner Releases Preliminary 2020 Death Data
The third leading cause of death among residents in Milwaukee County stemmed from COVID-19 complications, according to the medical examiner.
MILWAUKEE COUNTY, WI — Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Brian Peterson released Milwaukee County's preliminary death data for 2020 on Tuesday.
The county reported nearly 9,000 deaths for last year — most of which were natural, according to the medical examiner's office. The numbers, released via social media, are broken down as follows:
- Natural (non-COVID-19): 6,492
- Accidents: 1,038
- COVID-19 related: 887
- Homicides: 215
- Suicides: 123
