Authorities Identify Racine Officer Who Fatally Shot Man After Chase
The Racine police officer was placed on administrative leave and the Wisconsin Department of Justice is investigating, the agency said.
RACINE, WI — The Wisconsin Department of Justice has identified the officer who shot a man in Racine on Friday after a pursuit. The man died after he was shot, authorities said.
Racine Police Department Officer Zachary B. Brenner tried to stop a vehicle for a search warrant for felon in possession of a firearm just after 1 p.m. Friday, the DOJ said Tuesday in a news release. The subject of the chase, who the DOJ identified as 37-year-old Da’shontay L. King, ran away and was seen with a handgun when Brenner shot him, according to the DOJ news release.
King was brought to a hospital where he died. The DOJ said its Division of Criminal Investigation is looking into the fatal police shooting, and that Brenner has been placed on administrative leave.

A firearm was found at the scene and body camera footage captured the shooting, the DOJ said, and no law enforcement was injured.
The DCI is leading the investigation with help from the Wisconsin State Crime Lab and several other local agencies, according to the DOJ.

When the DCI finishes its investigation it will turn over reports to the Racine County District Attorney, the DOJ said.
