Gas Tank Getaways: A New Way to See Lake Michigan at Kohler-Andrae State Park
Climb dunes and explore woodlands near Lake Michigan's shore.
A cool breeze off Lake Michigan makes Kohler-Andrae State Park comfortable even when inland temperatures climb. And if the breeze is coming from the west, cooling off in the water is a great option.
The park has a large sandy beach on the shore of Lake Michigan, dunes, woods and wetlands to explore. It is home to a variety of birds and other animals and plants, and features handicap accessible hiking options. You can rent one of 137 campsites at the park, and one handicap-accessible cabin is available. For a different experience, a canvas and pole teepee can also be rented.
Where: The park is located about two miles south of Sheboygan on County Highway V, at 1020 Beach Park Lane, Sheboygan WI
When: 6 a.m.-11 p.m. year round

How much: Vehicle pass required for entry. Wisconsin vehicles pay $7 per day; an annual pass is $25. Campground rentals are extra.
Special Treat: The unique landscape along the lake provides a hike found in no other state park: the Dunes Cordwalk. Hikers on the 2 ½-mile cordwalk follow a path of boards and rope through the dunes. Take advantage of the lookout points to view Lake Michigan and the interdunal marsh area.
