4 Escape Burning Home In New Berlin With 2 Dogs: Fire Department

A firefighter was hospitalized for heat exhaustion after a fire broke out Monday morning at a home in New Berlin, officials said.

Fire departments that helped with the blaze Monday included those from Waukesha, Kettle Moraine, Elm Grove, Franklin, Hales Corners, Tess corners, Town of Brookfield, Vernon, Big Bend and  West Allis, the news release said.

NEW BERLIN, WI — A two-story home in New Berlin caught fire early Monday morning but the two adults, two children and two dogs inside escaped and called 911, according to fire officials.

Firefighters responded to the blaze in the 19400 block of West Highland Drive around 6:15 a.m., according to a news release from the New Berlin Fire Department. Heavy smoke and fire were coming out of the home and 11 additional fire departments were called to help, the news release said.

One firefighter had to be hospitalized for heat exhaustion, the news release said. What caused the fire remains under investigation, officials said.
