NEW BERLIN, WI β€” The City of New Berlin Office of Emergency Management told residents to stay inside due to the amount of power lines brought down after severe storms Tuesday.

"The community is urged to stay indoors and do not go outside for any reasons unless it’s relating to an emergency," the office said. Downed power lines and tree limbs are hazardous to people who come in contact with them, the office said.

The New Berlin City Streets Department will begin cleaning up debris Wednesday morning, the city said.

The city also asked residents to not call 911 for downed trees. The city will only handle trees that are in the right of way for emergency access at this time, the city said.

The city didn't immediately respond to Patch's calls. The phone system at the city hall is down, the city said in a Facebook post.
