Updated: Bay View Supervisor Voted County Board Chairwoman

Update 2:30 p.m. In a statement, Pat Jursik congratulated Dimitrijevic on her election and said supervisors should come together to support the new chairwoman. "Supervisor Dimitrijevic ran a hard race, and her election as chairwoman represents a new start for Milwaukee County. I look forward to her leadership for all of Milwaukee County. Chairwoman Dimitrijevic and I have already forged a strong alliance on behalf of the entire South Shore from Bay View all along the lakefront to Oak Creek. I am excited that she is now in this important leadership role."

Marina Dimitrijevic was voted the new chairwoman of the Milwaukee County Board on Monday, beating out four other candidates, including Supervisor Pat Jursik.

Jursik, who represents a portion of Oak Creek, was deadlocked with Dimitrijevic and Supervisor Theodore Lipscomb for several rounds of voting. On the 24th ballot, Dimitrijevic got 11 votes -- one more than the requirement of 10 -- to win the chairperson seat.

Dimitrijevic replaces Lee Holloway, who did not seek another term on the board.

"I'm pleased that my colleagues have entrusted me to serve as board chairwoman. I especially want to thank the other four candidates who ran for chairperson. Working closely with them is critical as we work from a team approach to move Milwaukee County forward," Dimitrijevic said in a news release. "I look forward to leading the way on important decisions facing the county over the next four years."

Before the chairperson voting, supervisors were sworn in to four-year terms.

County Supervisor Steve Taylor, who represents most of Oak Creek on the board, was one of five supervisors who took the oath for the first time. Taylor in the April 3 election.
