Homicide Investigation Underway After 22-Year-Old Man Fatally Shot in Oak Creek Apartment Complex (hoodline.com) — Oak Creek police are investigating a fatal shooting at an apartment complex near South 20th Street and West College Avenue that left 22-year-old Antonio Luis Ares dead in his vehicle. Investigators say the attack appears isolated, but they’re urging anyone with information to contact Detective Ben Lockwood as residents describe a heavy police presence and multiple gunshots.
   

2. Oak Creek Public Library Joins Milwaukee County's $100K Digital Upgrade with "Lucky Day" Collection (hoodline.com) — Oak Creek Public Library is rolling out a new “Lucky Day” digital collection on January 1 that will let you instantly borrow popular e-books and audiobooks with no holds. Backed by a $5,100 city investment in Milwaukee County’s $100,000 upgrade, the library will track usage in 2026 and may boost funding to further cut wait times for in-demand titles.
   

3. As energy-hungry data centers loom, Wisconsin ratepayers owe $1B on shuttered power plants (telegraphherald.com) — Oak Creek residents are still helping pay off We Energies’ aging coal plant in their backyard, part of nearly $1 billion Wisconsinites owe on shuttered or soon-to-close power plants. As massive AI-driven data centers demand huge new power supplies, regulators and lawmakers are wrestling with how to prevent another wave of costly “stranded assets” from landing on ratepayers’ bills for decades.
   

4. WIAA task force conducts initial conference realignment review (rivernewsonline.com) — Oak Creek High School is among the schools seeking changes in conference placement as the WIAA’s Conference Realignment Task Force advances several proposals for 2025-26 non-football sports. A combined plan involving Oak Creek and other Milwaukee-area schools will be reviewed Jan. 15, with final decisions expected from the WIAA Board of Control in March 2026.
