The company is reportedly seeking more space in the Milwaukee area, and that could mean a bigger presence in Oak Creek.

Caterpillar Inc. is planning to expand in the Milwaukee area, and that could include a bigger presence in Oak Creek, according to a BizTimes Milwaukee report.
A source told the newspaper the company is seeking space in Oak Creek to create a data center, and has considered leasing 25,000 square feet in the Liberty Corporate Preserve I building at 10050 S. 27th St.

A Caterpillar expansion would be big news for Oak Creek, which has touted its status as Caterpillar's mining headquarters home and sought to involve the company in the community as much as possible.
Caterpillar maintains its mining headquarters at 6744 S. Howell Ave., the complex that was formerly home to Midwest Express and acquired by Bucyrus in 2010.

Caterpillar completed its purchase of Bucyrus in 2011 and has kept the newly-remodeled Oak Creek building as well as the plant in South Milwaukee.
