City Employee Honored for Actions in Fire

Richard Kulka received a Citizen Citation after he quickly evacuated 30 people from a burning home last year.

A city of Oak Creek employee was honored for helping bring 30 people inside a burning home to safety.

Richard Kulka received a Citizen Citation at the awards ceremony last week.

On Dec. 10, Kulka noticed smoke and flames coming from a residence and quickly evacuated 30 people from the home, Mayor Steve Scaffidi wrote in his Mayor's Message. They were attending a baby shower and unaware of the fire.

"His quick thinking saved many injuries, and demonstrates the role that all of us play in public safety," Scaffidi said.
