Man Arrested After Crash That Injures His Passengers

Police say a vehicle struck a traffic standard and a light pole at the intersection of Rawson and Pennsylvania, sending two people to the hospital.

A 24-year-old South Milwaukee man was arrested following a crash Saturday at the intersection of Rawson and Pennsylvania that sent two of his passengers to the hospital.

The man was arrested for injury by intoxicated use of vehicle and taken to Milwaukee County Jail. He has not yet been charged.

According to an report, the man told police he was driving west on E. Rawson Avenue when he proceeded through a green light at the intersection with Pennsylvania Avenue.

However, the sun got in his eyes and he got scared and turned the wheel, according to the report. The vehicle went up onto the median and struck the traffic standard and a light pole.

A 27-year-old woman sitting in the front seat was taken to Froedtert Hospital with several head lacerations. A 24-year-old South Milwaukee man was transported to St. Luke's South Shore for a possible concussion.

A 2-year-old and a 2-month-old child were also in the car but not injured.

The car sustained severe front-end damage and was towed from the scene.

In addition to the drunken-driving arrest, the 24-year-old was also cited for failure to keep vehicle under control and received a warning for no insurance.

The 27-year-old woman was cited for a seatbelt violation.
