Updated: Election Day in Oak Creek

4:40 p.m. That will do it for this story - now, for all the latest news and results!

2:55 p.m. As he walked into his polling place, an elderly gentleman said to me, "I'm just sick of all this election stuff."

Too bad for him, because this is going to be a year-round event. Democratic governor primary in May, recall election in June, U.S. Senate primary in September, presidential election and more in November.

We're just getting started!

2:00 p.m. Now entering the mid-afternoon lull. One poll worker told me that she traffic is the heaviest in the early morning hours and then again as residents get done with work and school.

It was certainly quiet when I stopped by Carollton Elementary just now, as folks were able to go right up to the table.

12:50 p.m. Acting City Clerk Christa Miller said everything going smoothly at the six Oak Creek polling places. Nearly every district had at least 300-350 voters by noon.

"I'm optimistic that things will continue to run smoothly through the afternoon and early evening," Miller said.

12:15 p.m. Whatever the voter turnout % ends up being, you certainly can't blame the weather. Absolutely gorgeous day in Oak Creek today, with the sun out and temps in the 50s.

11:55 a.m. I didn't get a count, but things were looking awfully dead at the community center when I stopped by.

At this point, not sure if having the Republican presidential primary will drive up the voter turnout or not. So far things seem pretty similar to February.

11:40 a.m. One voter told me he disconnected his phone last night because of all the robo-calls. A lot from the judge candidates, as well as Romney and Santorum.

Anyone else have to do the same?

11:25 a.m. Kate Humphries, who is managing the 5th District polling place at Meadowview Elementary School, said 330 people had voted just before 11 a.m. Humphries said they had been "moderately busy" and on par with the February primary.

The 5th District traditionally has one of the highest voter participation rates in the city.

Humphries added that they haven't experienced any problems thus far.

9:30 a.m. - those voting at the Oak Creek Community Center polling place can purchase some baked goods. West Middle School is sponsoring a bake sale, with proceeds going to the technology department. It opened at 7 a.m. and will be open until the polls close at 8 p.m. or all bakery is sold.

Citywide races

: In the city's most high-profile race, Mark Verhalen and Steve Scaffidi are vying to replace the late Mayor Dick Bolender.

: Another open seat, with Catherine Roeske and LeAnn Launstein competing to replace Pam Bauer, who retired in October. 

: Incumbent Barbara Guckenberger faces challenger Tony Paladino.

: Voters can pick two candidates out of the three on the ballot: incumbents Brian Kaminski and Kathleen Borchardt and former School Board member Sheryl Cerniglia.

Aldermanic races

Depending on where you live, you may be voting for your representative on the Oak Creek Common Council. Click here for a map of the districts to see if your race is on the ballot.

: Incumbent Dan Bukiewicz faces challenger Zachary Johnson.

: Incumbent Michael Toman takes on challenger Rosemarie Annonson and write-in candidate Steve Kuzma. 

: Incumbent Tom Michalski and challenger Chris Guzikowski are competing for the position.

Milwaukee County races

: Most of Oak Creek, with the exception of a portion on the north end of town, falls in the 9th supervisory district. Franklin Alderman Steve Taylor and Oak Creek Alderman Ken Gehl are running for the position held by Paul Cesarz, who is not running for re-election.

In the 8th District, which includes two wards in Oak Creek, supervisor Pat Jursik is running unopposed.

: Voters will elect the comptroller of Milwaukee County for the first time. Kristie Bunting and Scott Manske are the candidates vying for the position.

: Incumbent Nelson Phillps faces challenger Carolina Stark.

: Hannah Dugan and Lindsey Grady are competing for the open seat.

Presidential primary

Oh, yes...that too. Although there are four active candidates campaigning for the Republican nomination for president, all candidates who have thrown their hat in the ring will still be listed on the ballot: Newt Gingrich, Jon Huntsman, Mitt Romney, Michele Bachmann, Ron Paul, Rick Santorum.

Although there are no expected challengers to the sitting Democratic President Barack Obama, it still exists as an option to write in. Note you will be required to fill in the preferred party you will vote in first, then pick an individual candidate within that party.

Voter information

Polls open at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m. To look up your voter information, visit the state's Voter Public Access site; for questions, call the clerk's office at (414) 768-6500.

The city clerk's office has put together a handy guide to voting in Oak Creek that includes sample ballots, absentee voting information and other resources.

The requirement that voters show identification and is not in effect for this election. Voters still have to sign a poll book, however.
