Updated: Driver Cited For Running Red Light in Crash

A woman was seriously injured in four-car accident Sunday.

A 46-year-old Milwaukee man ran a red light Sunday and struck a vehicle eastbound on Rawson, resulting in multiple injuries including one woman who was taken to Froedtert Hospital by Flight for Life, according to an report.

According to the report:

An officer came upon the accident, at the intersection of Rawson and Howell, about 11:45 a.m. He found two people who were unconscious and two children injured.

Police later determined that the 46-year-old was northbound on S. Howell Ave. when he ran a red light, striking a vehicle that was eastbound on Rawson.

One of the passengers in that vehicle, a 30-year-old South Milwaukee woman, was airlifted to Froedtert Hospital with life-threatening injuries. Her condition was not known Monday morning.

The driver, a 40-year-old South Milwaukee woman, was taken to the hospital by ambulance, as were two children, ages 4 and 7. The 46-year-old man also went to the hospital.

After the collision, those two vehicles spun around and hit a third vehicle. A passenger in that car was late in her pregnancy but told police she did not need medical attention. WITI-TV reported that she was taken to the hospital as a precaution.

Police cited the 46-year-old man for running a red light and inattentive driving.

Two vehicles were totaled. The third vehicle had severe damage, while a fourth vehicle sustained minor damage.

Police shut down the intersection for about two and a half hours, according to a WISN-TV report.

A second accident occurred about a half hour later when a vehicle southbound in the 7100 block of Rawson Avenue struck a car in front of it. A 23-year-old Oak Creek man was cited for inattentive driving.
