Indoor Swimming Pool For Dogs Proposed On Rawson Avenue In Oak Creek

A swimming pool meant to give dogs fun, fitness and therapy could be coming to Oak Creek, according to city plan commission documents.

OAK CREEK, WI — An indoor swimming pool meant to give dogs a fun and therapeutic experience could be coming to Oak Creek on Rawson Avenue.

Dog Paddle Inc. proposed the business for 140 East Rawson Avenue Suite 306, according to Oak Creek Plan Commission documents. The spot offers 30-minute private swim session appointments where people can bring in their dogs for fitness, fun, and even recovery from surgery or to alleviate arthritis, according to a business description submitted to the city.

After a doggy swim session, customers are able to use a dog wash to bathe and dry their pet, the business description had. The business offers assisted and unassisted swims so dogs can get comfortable in the water until they are a "certified paddler" and allowed in without assistance, the plan said.

The 13-foot by 25-foot pool would have water kept at 80 degrees, the description said, so it's warm enough for dogs coming in for therapy but not too warm for more energetic dogs.

For many of the dogs, the sessions are all about fetch, said Peter Benson, the business' owner and operator.

A conditional use amendment for the proposal is set to be heard at the Oak Creek Plan Commission meeting on Tuesday.
