Man Drove Intentionally Drove I-94 While High On Heroin: Report

Authorities say the driver admitted to using heroin at a Park and Ride, and waited to feel the effects of the drug before driving I-94.

MILWAUKEE COUNTY, WI — A Wisconsin man admitted to shooting up heroin in a park-and-ride, and waiting for the effects to kick in before driving on I-94 on his way to a poker tournament, authorities say.

Authorities say Kevin A. Heintz, 34 Campbellsport, was arrested by the Wisconsin State Patrol on suspicion of his third drunken driving offense.

According to reports, a Wisconsin State Trooper was stationed in the I-94 north-south construction zone on assignment to monitor vehicle speeds on Saturday. Authorities say the trooper saw a man driving his vehicle on two flat tires, and continually side swiping his car against the median wall of the expressway in the south lanes at about 4 p.m.

The Trooper was able to stop the vehicle and made contact with the driver. Heintz admitted to using heroin at a Park and Ride in Milwaukee, waited to feel the effects of the drug and started driving to Indiana to a poker tournament, according to a news release from the Wisconsin State Patrol.

He was transported to a local hospital as a precaution before being released. Authorities say they're recommending the following charges to the local district attorney's office for consideration:

  • Felony Possession of Heroin
  • Misdemeanor Operating While Impaired 3rd Offense
  • Operating After Revocation due to OWI 2nd Offense
  • Reckless Driving / Endanger Safety
  • Display Unauthorized Registration Plate

Heintz was also arrested on outstanding warrants for the following, and held at the Milwaukee
County Jail on the following charges:

  • Operating a Motor Vehicle While Revoked
  • Contempt of Court — Child Support
