Oak Creek Police: Be Vigilant In Protecting Property From Theft
Eighty-four percent of all vehicle break-ins are a result of owners leaving their property unlocked, Oak Creek police said.
OAK PARK, WI—With summer approaching, the Oak Creek Police Department is urging residents to be vigilant in protecting their property from thefts.
Officers said they regularly take calls for thefts from vehicles and residence burglaries.
Recent analysis of historical data shows that criminal activity increases over the warmer summer months, they warned.

This review of data from 2016 - 2019 also shows that 84 percent of all vehicle break-ins are a result of owners leaving their property unlocked. Often unlocked vehicles can lead to access to homes via garage remotes and keys left in cars, police said.

• Remove all valuables from your car or keep them out of sight
• Lock your car door
• Do not leave the garage remote in your car
• Lock all exterior house doors especially at night or when you are not home
• Keep lights on inside and outside the property
• Report any suspicious behavior to the Oak Creek Police Department
