Oak Creek Students Organize State Summit On Distracted Driving

Event in Wisconsin Dells will focus on the dangers of texting while driving.

Students from are leading the charge on a day-long summit regarding the dangers of texting while driving.

The students will join nearly 800 other teens at the Wisconsin State Summit on Teen Distracted Driving on Tuesday in Wisconsin Dells.

Four Oak Creek students and a teacher participated in a national conference in Washington D.C. last year that focused on distracted driving. They were then tasked with organizing the state summit.

The event reinforces the message that texts can, and should, wait until after driving.

It will include the showing of a documentary called "The Last Text," which shares real stories about lives that were altered by texting while driving; a presentation by the Wisconsin State Patrol; and an obstacle course that demonstrates how difficult it is to text and drive.
