OCFD Responds to Grass Fire on W. Ryan Road
Fire comes in the midst of drought-like conditions and just two days after a grass fire stopped the Oak Creek fireworks display.

The Oak Creek Fire Department put out a grass fire Friday afternoon at Edgerton Contractors, 545 W. Ryan Road, as the city continues to deal with drought-like conditions.
The business is next to the , 301 W. Ryan Road. A police sergeant noticed the fire and called the fire department about 1:35 p.m., according to the department logbook.
Damage from the fire, which covered about a 20-yard area, was limited to just the grass. The cause was not immediately clear.

The fire came just two days after a grass fire and one day after the city enacted a temporary burning ban because of the dry conditions.
According to the logbook, police visited seven homes between Thursday, when the ban went into effect, and Monday morning. Officers informed residents who started small fires in their backyards about the ban, which covers all outdoor burning except for grills, and asked them to extinguish the fires.

The drought also led Gov. Scott Walker in Milwaukee and 41 other counties.
