Parking Lot Fender Bender Leads to Arrest

19-year-old man arrested for drunken driving, marijuana possession.

A 19-year-old Sturtevant man who backed into a car and fled the scene was arrested for drunken driving and marijuana possession Monday night.

were called to the parking lot of , 8171 S. Howell Ave., about 8:15 p.m. by a 26-year-old Oak Creek woman. She told police that a truck was backing out of a parking space and struck her Honda, which was legally parked. The truck then left the scene.

Police caught up with the truck, driven by the 19-year-old man, who told an officer he fled because he did not have a license or insurance, the report said.

An officer noticed the man had bloodshot eyes and had him take field sobriety tests. He was then taken to Wheaton Franciscan Hospital for a blood draw, which showed a preliminary blood-alcohol content of .08, according to the police report.

The officer also smelled the odor of marijuana in his vehicle. The man admitted to smoking marijuana while driving around and police found a small amount of it in the ash tray, the police report said.

The man was arrested for drunken driving and marijuana possession.

Both vehicles suffered minor damage.
