Plans Move Ahead For School Uniform Company Headquarters In Oak Creek

Revised plans from Global Schoolwear to bring their headquarters to Oak Creek won approval at a plan commission meeting Tuesday.

OAK CREEK, WI — A national school uniform distributor that plans on relocating its headquarters from the Chicago suburbs to Oak Creek won site plan approval Tuesday at an Oak Creek Plan Commission meeting.

The proposed development from Global Schoolwear would bring a new 75,000-square-foot building for offices and a warehouse to 200 West Oakview Parkway, according to city plan documents.

The company said it provides apparel to students at more than 600 schools in all 50 states. Their services include embroidery, heat press options and tailoring. During peak months, the business expects to employ 60 people on first shift and around 25 on second shift, city documents said. During non-peak months, mainly October through May, the business expects to employ 20-25 people.

Initial proposals from the business caused concerns about wetlands, BizTimes reported. At the meeting Tuesday, city staff told the commission the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources granted a limited fill-in permit for the wetlands, and the proposal was modified to reduce the impact on wetlands.

The city's plan commission approved the proposal's site plan Tuesday with various conditions aimed at ensuring the development remains in code.
