Volleyball Court Approved For Construction At Willow Heights Park

The Oak Creek Common Council approved the construction of a volleyball court at Willow Heights Park.

OAK CREEK, WI — The Oak Creek Common Council approved the construction of a 40-foot by 50-foot sand volleyball court at Willow Heights Park during its meeting on June 7, minutes show.

The cost of the new court is not to exceed $28,000. No alderperson voted against the measure, minutes show. The proposal for the new court was started by a resident in 2020 and handed off to the city's Parks and Recreation Commission. The resident requested the court as her daughter was finding success in the high school sport, city documents said.

Willow Heights Park is located at 1111 West Weatherly Drive. It currently features baseball diamonds, basketball courts, pickleball courts, a playground and tennis courts, according to the city's website.

The project will be undertaken by city staff from the department of public works, city documents show. Six mature trees will be removed, alongside 185 cubic yards of dirt to make way for 300 tons of sand, city documents said.

The volleyball courts that currently exist in the city — there are nine in total and seven are sand — are currently underutilized, city staff noted in their report to the common council ahead of the measure's approval. With the new court, staff suggested the city look at if other facilities should be repurposed.
