Grill Starts Deck Fire, Police Say

The family had used the charcoal grill about six hours before police received the call about a fire.

A charcoal grill on a back patio is to blame for a fire caused about 6 hours after it was done being used. 

Officers responded to the area of Sunset Road and County Highway LL after a call came in about a back deck of a home on fire at 12:31 a.m. July 1, according to Port Washington police reports.

The fire was contained to the back deck and after it was extinguished, officials determined the cause of the fire was a charcoal grill, the report said.

The homeowner told police his family had grilled dinner around 6 p.m. the day before, the report said.
