Lighthouse Visit Delivers a Message on Happy
I've got a confession to make — now will anyone else fess up?

I have a confession to make that, despite contemplating the repercussions of such, I decided to tell you about anyway.
On Wednesday, I took my first trip along the breakwall — walking the entire thing and finally stand under the old lighthouse. My first time ever making that complete walk since moving to Port in December 2010.
I'll add a clarification/disclaimer to my statement: on the Fourth of July, I did walk part way out onto the breakwall to watch the fireworks display.

But, alas, I have never gone out under the lighthouse.
I feel like living in Port and not ever having visited the breakwall lighthouse is a "crime." Just like the fact that I graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and yet I never spent one day floating down the Chippewa River (a cherised past-time by many-a-student.)

But the lighthouse visit wasn't by my own doing. My grandmother and her sister were in town, and the "tourist" in them, combined with the lovely weather we had in Port, made it appear the right thing to do.
It was no life-changing experience, but it was one of those things that made me stop and think: I've lived here for a year and a half and I have never made this walk?
It's habit for us to take a lot of things that are so common in our life for granted, and it's easy to stick to that routine — it's easy to just say we're busy, and then keep on, keepin' on.
We eat, sleep and work with some showers in between and maybe a few social endeavors. We can remind ourselves to stop and smell the roses, but it's not always so easy to just make that a way of life.
But, if everybody had a little bit of "vacation" in their every day, I feel like the world would be a better place — or at least a happier one.
