Local Restaurant Offers 'You Hook 'Em, We Cook 'Em' Fish Meal Option

Victor's Pier Street Shanty offers an alternative way for preparing self-caught fish: have the restaurant cook it, rather than do-it-yourself at home.

Dining out is an experience people often choose as a way to avoid doing the cooking themselves — and is now extending that invitation to local fishermen looking to fry up their recent catches.

The restaurant has launched "You Hook 'em, We Cook 'em" inviting fishermen to bring in their fresh caught fish, and choose from six different cooking styles, according to owner Victor Cerda

"It’s in its infancy … like any adventure, it’s starting out slow and it has to build and people (have to) know about it," Cerrda said. "There’s nothing better than eating a catch that you’ve caught a couple hours before."

Among the flavors for cooking are Cajun, key west, Caribbean and poached; Victor said the idea is catching on among Lake Michigan fisherman, and he has seen “far more salmon” being brought in — “because that’s what’s being caught out there.”

"It’s something that Lisa (the chef) has done at other places but never had a location like this (so close to the lake)," Cerda said.

The You Hook 'em, We Cook 'em menu costs $10.95 per plate, and includes the flavors as well as two side dishes.
