Semi-Truck Crash On Interstate 43 Leaves 2 Dead: Sheriff

Two semi-trucks crashed on Interstate 43 north of Port Washington on Thursday, authorities said. Flames engulfed the scene, reports showed.

BELGIUM, WI — A semi-truck on Interstate 43 left the roadway and crashed into a southbound semi-truck just north of Port Washington on Thursday, leaving both drivers dead, authorities said.

Both trucks sustained severe damage in the crash, and both drivers died at the scene, according to a news release by the Ozaukee County Sheriff's Office. The crash was reported around 6:35 p.m. less than a 1/2 mile south of Sandy Beach Road in the Town of Belgium, the sheriff's office said.

Photos captured by CBS58 appeared to show pieces of the vehicles scattered about and flames engulfing much of the crash scene. Authorities did not immediately release the identities of the two truck drivers who were killed.

Authorities closed I-43 between exit 100 and 107 in both directions amid an investigation on Thursday.

The Ozaukee County Sheriff's Office thanked bystanders who assisted in the crash before first responders arrived.
