South Beach Clean Up: Residents Adopt a Beach
The monthly cleanup is part of the Alliance for the Great Lakes Adopt-a-Beach program.

South Beach received its monthly face-lift this week as a group of residents hit the sands to clean up as part of the Alliance for the Great Lakes Adopt-a-Beach program.
Resident Kit Walters said she heard of the Alliance and the beach program, and thought it was a good idea to sign on. She spoke with owner Elizabeth MacCrimmon of Chocolate Chisel, and now a group of employees participate regularly.
The group focuses on South Beach because they believe it needs a bit more cleaning than North Beach.

The group cleans the beach monthly, except for the winter months — usually skipping December through February. Cleanup events can be found by searching for South Beach Canoe and Kayak Launch on the Alliance's website.
The cleanup events are open to the public, and a nationwide cleanup day will be held on Sept. 21; the Chocolate Chisel group is participating in that event.
