How Students And Families In Shorewood Schools Can Get COVID-19 Tests
Students and their families in the Shorewood School District can be tested for COVID-19 at the Shorewood Village Center.

SHOREWOOD, WI β Members of the Shorewood School District community, including students, staff and parents, will be able to get COVID-19 testing for free at the Shorewood Village Center, an announcement from the District said.
No appointment is necessary for the testing set to take place three days per week. Starting Sept. 9, COVID-19 testing from Summit Clinical Laboratories will be available for students, staff members, student siblings, parents and district volunteers, according to the announcement.
The clinic plans to use PCR tests that have an average turnaround time of 24-48 hours, the district announcement said.

"Testing helps reduce community spread and keeps schools operating safely. Testing individuals who are symptomatic or close contacts helps enable rapid detection of cases in the school community and reduce or prevent school outbreaks," the district announcement from Interim Superintendent Dr. JoAnn Sternke said.

The approach to mitigating COVID-19 outbreaks in schools, especially as the delta variant has sent Wisconsin into case levels only otherwise seen before vaccination became available, is not universally agreed upon.
Shorewood School District has taken a universal masking approach for the new school year. In August, the District decided to make face coverings required for all people in school buildings, regardless of their vaccination status. The move was in line with advice from the state's and nation's top health agencies.
Other districts have opted to make masks optional for students older than 12. Students under that age, the cutoff for vaccination, are required to wear masks in many districts. Some districts have opted to make masks optional across the board.
