Flooding Damages High School Orchestra Room

A leaking pipe caused flood damage in the Shorewood High School orchestra room last night.

Members of the Shorewood School District’s facilities department, along with outside contractors, are cleaning up after a pipe that was damaged during last night’s power outage. It is still unclear exactly what caused the flooding.

Although the flooding was unexpected and rapid, members of Shorewood’s maintenance staff quickly turned off the water and the district’s insurance company, along with outside contractors, arrived at SHS late Tuesday night to begin the cleanup process.

“Our staff performed extremely well last night, and their quick-thinking helped prevent any widespread damage throughout the performing arts building,” Shorewood Superintendent Dr. Marty Lexmond said. “We are extremely fortunate to have such talented individuals working for our District.” 

Though the cleanup effort is still ongoing, it is clear that a few areas of dry wall will need to be replaced. In addition, the water also damaged three instruments and a few pieces of costume apparel belonging to the school’s drama program.
