Greyhound Roundup: Girls Get First Win of the Season
Margaret O'Brien hits shot to force overtime, then game-winner in OT.
Here is this week's Greyhound Roundup, a look at Shorewood High School sports courtesy of Athletic Director Bill Haury.
Girls Basketball — The girls got their first victory of the season in a 58-56 overtime victory at Greenfield. In a close first half, Greenfield took a first-quarter 11-8 lead and built onto that with a 12-10 second quarter to go in at halftime leading 23-18. The third quarter remained close with both teams putting in 10 points. The Greyhounds poured it on in the fourth quarter with a 19-15 advantage, and when Margaret O’Brien sank a three-pointer with less than four seconds left in the game, it tied the score and sent it into overtime.Â
Margaret continued to have the hot hand and hit the winning shot to give Shorewood the overtime victory. Margaret and Brianna McKinney led the team with 14 points each, Aisling Moloney added 10 points, Robbie Holland had 9, Ashley Eimers had 4, Maura Curtis and Johnna Odom each had 3, and Abby Pech scored 1 point. The girls are now 1-5 in conference play, and 1-7 overall.

This week, the Greyhounds host St. Francis on Friday. Varsity play begins at 7:30 p.m.
Boys Basketball – After six close games to begin the season, Tuesday night the boys varsity team won big against the Hustlin’ Hawks of Greenfield, 76-44. After a high-scoring first quarter, Greenfield had a slight edge, 23-20. Both teams settled in on defense in the second quarter and Shorewood came back 10-7 to tie the game at 30-all going into halftime. A 13-point run at the start of the third quarter resulted in a 26-7 advantage for the Greyhounds and put Greenfield at a disadvantage it could not come back from. Shorewood continued to add on to their lead in the fourth quarter, with the starters taking a seat and the bench players getting into the scoring and finishing with a 20-7 margin in the final quarter.

On Thursday, the boys traveled to Muskego for their second non-conference game. Deion Jackson-Body led the team with 20 points and Kejuan Glosson added 17 as the team won 68-60. This evened their overall record at 4-4.
The boys host West Allis Hale today and are at St. Francis on Friday.
Boys Swimming – The team competed in the very competitive Metro Swim Officials Invite at Homestead. The team finished eighth out of 17 schools which included a number of Division 1 schools from Wisconsin and Illinois. Jay Tomasiewicz started the scoring with a second-place finish in the 400 individual medley, and followed that up with another second-place finish in the 200 butterfly. Kirill Korolev placed second in the 100 freestyle and the 500 freestyle. Derek Lock placed sixth in the 100 backstroke and Andrew Clokey placed seventh in the 100 butterfly. Devon Brusnahan swam a very impressive 200 individual medley finishing fifth in 2:17.64.
Boys swimming is at South Milwaukee on Wednesday and in the Cedarburg Invitational on Saturday.
Boys Ice Hockey– The Whitefish Bay/Nicolet/Shorewood combined team made it to the championship game of the Milwaukee Admirals Holiday Tournament. They began with a win over Arrowhead, the second time this year. They moved on to play Cedarburg and won 4-0. This sent them to the championship game against Marquette where they lost 7-1. The team continues to play very well and is now ranked fifth in the area for the first time in many years.
The hockey team goes north to visit D.C. Everest on Friday and Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln on Saturday.
