Police Report: Daycare Office Burglarized; Drunken Driver Crashes into Light Poles on Capitol Drive

A roundup of the latest from the Shorewood police reports.

The program is out $700 after the Shorewood daycare program’s main office inside school was burglarized sometime over the weekend.

Police say doors to the closed and locked school and program office at 2214 E. Capitol Dr. were entered but showed no signs of forced entry. However, a safe inside the office was forcibly entered.

An investigation is ongoing.

  • Police say a 40-year-old Milwaukee woman was drunk when she crashed her car into two light poles in the 1100 block of East Capitol Drive Monday night around 8:37. The woman wasn’t injured when police found her car lodged on top of the center median and agreed to a sobriety test, which she failed. She had a .16 blood alcohol concentration and it is her 1st drunken driving offense.
  • A thief got a surprise Wednesday when the owner of a car he was rummaging through confronted him. Police say the suspect entered an unlocked car in the 1800 block of East Elmdale Court and started looking through the car when the owner saw him and asked him what he was doing in the car. The man said “I’m just looking for something,” put his hood up and walked away, according to police. The vehicle owner told police nothing appeared to be missing.
  • security told police Wednesday they confiscated an altered identification card used by a girl under the drinking age to try to purchase alcohol at the grocer at 4145 N. Oakland Ave. Police say they don’t plan on citing her.
  • A wallet was reported stolen from a purse Wednesday from a reading room in the basement at , 2100 E. Capitol Dr. The $90 wallet had $35 in cash.
  • Police stopped a driver Monday after they noticed him driving around Shorewood with scrap metal in his truck bed. The driver confessed to looking for a place to dump the metal. He was given a verbal warning.
  • A $100 men’s red Power Climber bicycle was reported stolen Monday from the tennis courts at , 3830 N. Morris Blvd.
