Police Report: Shorewood Man Awakens to Attempted Burglary

A Shorewood man was awakened Saturday when two would-be home intruders punched out his bedroom window in an attempted burglary.
The man told police he was sleeping in his apartment in the 4000 block of North Prospect Avenue around 1 a.m., when two men broke the screen out of his bedroom window, causing a fan sitting in the window to crash to the floor.
He jumped up to see the men in the window just as they fled.

Police surveyed the area for the men, but were unable to locate them.

- A 37-year-old Milwaukee man was arrested Friday for drunken driving after he was pulled over for doing double the posted speed limit. The man was stopped in the 4100 block of North Oakland Avenue at about 1:37 a.m. after driving 51 mph in a 25 mph zone. Police smelled alcohol on his breath and said he had bloodshot eyes, according to the report. The man failed a field sobriety test, and police are waiting on the results of a blood alcohol content test.
- Police arrested a 20-year-old man and 24-year-old man for retail theft Thursday after they walked out of , 4145 N. Oakland Ave., with four bottles of alcohol worth $75.99, according to the report. Police say a store employee noticed the men walk out of the store with liquor concealed inside their clothes, saw them jump into a silver car and head south on North Oakland Avenue. The employee called police with a description of the car. Police pulled them over in the 4000 block of Oakland Avenue, where the men were arrested.
- A 37-year-old Milwaukee woman was arrested Saturday after police say she walked out of , 4145 N. Oakland Ave. with a $8.93 salad. The woman told police she was within her rights because the food was from the open salad bar, which is free to the public.
- After Walgreens staff reviews surveillance video, police hope to get a description of a man believed to have stolen two bottles of body wash from , 4081 N. Oakland Ave., on Saturday.
- A resident in the 4100 block of North Stowell Avenue phoned police Saturday because a neighbor was displaying a poster in a window naming her and her son. Police sent a letter on the complainant’s behalf asking the sign be removed.
- An $80 hot pink Next mountain bicycle and black and grey Trek mountain bicycle were reported stolen Friday from a bike rack at , 1325 E. Capitol Dr. The bicycles were unlocked when police say they were likely taken, between 9 and 10 p.m.
