Shorewood Bulk Leaf Collection Begins October: What To Know
DPW typically starts leaf collection in the third week of October. Here's what you need to know approaching those dates.
SHOREWOOD, WI β It's approaching that time of year again in Shorewood and it will soon be the season of DPW's leaf vacuums. With the dawning of autumn and cooler air, trees will soon shed the rest of their leaves.
To help with all this dead foliage, the Village Shorewood plans to start bulk leaf collection in October. The village's website lists some need-to-know facts for when that starts.
Shorewood's system for bulk collection is basically a giant vacuum that roams the streets attached to the back of a DPW truck. Across the village, bulk leaf collection typically starts on the third Monday of October. In 2021, that would be Oct. 18. Until then, leaves should be bagged up.

Before and after bulk leaf collection, leaves need to be bagged up. During bulk collection, they can be raked in piles. Piles should not be left in the street, the village wrote. Instead, pile them between the sidewalk and curb.

Bulk leaf collection continues each week after the third week of October, but it can be hindered by frozen precipitation, according to Shorewood's website. Piles soaked with water or frozen piles of leaves cannot be collected.
"If the weather forecast is questionable, residents are strongly urged to bag leaves for collection," the city website said.
Piles should also only contain leaves. Other yard debris may hinder collection.
