Shorewood Hires New Elementary School Band Director

Shorewood School District recently hired a new band director for its elementary schools.

SHOREWOOD, WI β€” Shorewood School District hired a new band director for its elementary school band programs. The new educator's primary instruments are clarinet and saxophone, according to a Facebook post from the Shorewood Band Parents Association.

Katherine Myszewski will take over the program from the now retired Robert Hughes. Myszewski graduated from Ripon College with a degree in music education, the association's Facebook post said.

Myszewski has performed with the Wisconsin Symphonic Winds and is a board member of the Knightwood Ensemble, the post said.

Prior to joining Shorewood, Myszewski taught elementary school band and jazz band in the Cedarburg School District.

Myszewski is also a graduate student at the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee in the Milwaukee's Intentional Equity Cohort for Adminstrative Leadership program, the post said. She is "thrilled to join the team at Shorewood to continue the work in the Integrated Comprehensive Systems for Equity," the post said.

Myszewski is Safe Zone Trained for LGBTQ+ awareness, the post said, and has developed her own training for educators called "Teaching the Rainbow."
