When track coach Dominic Newman saw a squad car following him on North Lake Drive early Monday morning as he was dropping off some people after the state track meet, he thought nothing of it. Little did he know, however, that squads from Whitefish Bay, Glendale and Shorewood were setting up roadblocks on the street because they thought Newman was driving a stolen car.

Local officials cast a grim forecast of the North Shore’s public schools under Gov. Walker’s proposed budget in a forum sponsored by the North Shore Citizen’s Group Tuesday night. To a crowd of about 50 in the auditorium, panelists expressed concern about the combination of decreased revenue from the state and tax freezes leaving local municipalities with few options but cutting services.
The Shorewood Village Board will interview six applicants for the vacant trustee seat Monday at Village Hall, 3930 N. Murray Ave. The board will conduct 25-minute interviews starting around 5 p.m. with each candidate in open session and consider holding a vote later that night.
Village officials on Thursday approved an additional deck to the proposed parking structure behind at a cost of $1 million. The deck adds 55 parking spots to the $32 million, six-story retail and apartment project proposed by the Mandel Group. Community Development Authority officials say they are needed to handle parking demand during peak traffic hours.
Shorewood village officials approved an intergovernmental agreement Monday to consolidate health services with six other North Shore communities. The agreement approved by the Village Board will now be circulated to the other participating municipalities including the city of Glendale and villages of Bayside, Brown Deer, Fox Point, River Hills and Whitefish Bay for approval no later than July 8, Trustee Patrick Linnane said.
Just weeks ago, four young Shorewood violin students performed in an internationally-attended special concert at Carnegie Hall. Lake Bluff first-grader Amelia Calderon-Henes, and sisters Isabella, Lake Bluff first-grader, Annalise, Lake Bluff sixth-grader, and their older sister Emilie Lozier, Shorewood High School freshman, shared the stage with a group of 750 violinists from all over the country for the 40th Annual School for Strings Festival Graduation Concert, May 27.
