Shorewood Snapshot: Election Day; Jugglefest; Author, Historian Visits Village

A look at this week's local events and news.

Election Day — Tuesday is of course Election Day and there are several races on the ballot including a Village Board general election, Wisconsin Supreme Court race and state superintendent race, among other contests.

Jugglefest — Professional performers as well as local talent anchor the eighth annual Jugglefest Variety Show. This year’s event emcee is Lou Lepore, magician and comedian from Menasha, WI. Lepore’s repertoire includes close-up, platform and strolling magic tricks.

Professional and amateur jugglers and entertainers to be featured this year include: The Flame Fatales fire dance troupe; Nehemiah Peterson and Noah Bachofen, national level yo-yoers and more. Jugglefest hits the stage Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m. in Shorewood High School auditorium, 1701 E. Capitol Dr. 

Tickets are $5 at the door. Children 5 years and under are free.

 — Author, storyteller and historian Jerry Apps will share stories from his most recent books on gardening and rural Wisconsin history including Garden Wisdom – Lessons Learned from 60 Years of Gardening, when he visits Shorewood Saturday at 10:30 a.m.

Apps has been a rural Wisconsin historian and environmental writer for more than 40 years. He is also a wonderful story teller and inspirational speaker.  The Shorewood Historical Society and the Friends of the Shorewood Library welcome Apps to Shorewood. The event starts at 10:30 a.m. in the Village Center, 3920 N. Murray Ave.

The event is free and open to the public, and is co-sponsored by Boswell Books, which will have a number of Apps' recent books for sale at the event.

Government meetings — Trustees will consider a design engineering services contract for road repairs and water main construction, consider a proposal for Atwater bluff restoration work and hear a report on Shorewood's recycling program during a regular Village Board meeting Monday night at 7:30 at Village Hall, 3930 N. Murray Ave. 

The village's Community Development Authority will discuss development of the former Riverbrook Restaurant site during a meeting Friday 7:30 a.m. at Village Hall. 

Rain garden/barrel workshop — Learn about ways to save money on watering while keeping excess rainwater out of the sewers and your basement during a rain garden and rain barrel workshop Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Shorewood Village Center, 3920 N. Murray Ave.
