When Does School Start in Shorewood?

Summer vacation is – gasp! – nearing its end already, which means it’s time to get ready to head back to school.

Here are some important things you need to know as the first day of school in the Shorewood School District rapidly approaches.

When is the first day of school? We’ll start with the easiest question of all. For all for Shorewood schools, it's Tuesday, Sept. 3, the day after Labor Day.

But there are other important dates on the calendar you need to know, like early dismissal days and days when there is no class (Oct. 11 is the first of those!).

What are the hours of the school day? It varies a little bit, depending on the school:

• High School: 7:35 a.m. to 3:07 p.m.
• Intermediate School: 7:45 a.m. to 3:11 p.m.
• Atwater Elementary: 8:15 a.m. to 3:25 p.m.
• Lake Bluff Elementary: 8:15 a.m to 3:25 p.m.

• High School: Thursday, Aug. 8, from 3 to 7 p.m.; Friday, Aug. 9, from 8 a.m to noon. Both days in the SHS arena.
• Intermediate School: Thursday, Aug. 8, from 3 to 7 p.m.; Friday, Aug. 9, from noon to 5 p.m. Both days in the school's main office.
• Lake Buff and Atwater: Tuesday, Aug. 20, from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Wednesday, Aug. 21, from 1 to 7 p.m.

Freshmen orientation will be held at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 13, in the SHS auditorium.
