1 Candidate Emerges For District 5 Aldermanic Seat

Peter Bartels is seeking an appointment to the Waukesha Common Council.

Peter Bartels is the only person to seek the District 5 aldermanic seat after Alderman Paul Ybarra's departure for work- and family-related reasons.

The 1991 Marquette University graduate currently works for Metalcraft of Mayville as a technical center manager. He's lived in District 5 for 13 years and has always had an interest in the community, according to his cover letter.

"My background as an engineer has given me the ability to thoroughly research many subjects and make informed decisions," Bartels said in his letter to Mayor Jeff Scrima. "I know my past experiences will benefit me in filling this open position and working for my district."

The deadline for applicants for the vacant Waukesha Common Council seat was Friday. The Waukesha Common Council will interview and approve the next alderman at its meeting on July 16 at City Hall, 201 Delafield St.

If approved, Bartels will need to be elected in April 2014 to finish Ybarra's term, which ends in 2016.
