2 Seriously Injured After SUVs Crash Near Racine Avenue In Waukesha

A crash near Racine Avenue and Highway 164 in Waukesha Tuesday evening closed the roadway for hours, according to police.

WAUKESHA, WI — Two people were seriously injured when two SUVs crashed near Highway 164 and Racine Avenue in Waukesha Tuesday afternoon, according to police.

One of the cars was driving south on Highway 164/59 and the other was driving west on Racine Avenue when they crashed, police said. Police logs indicated that two people became trapped and seriously injured in one of the cars while the other caught aflame. First responders brought the seriously injured to Waukesha Memorial Hospital for advanced care, police said, while the person from the other car was treated at the scene of the crash.

Investigators are working with citizens who witnessed the crash to figure out what happened. The Wisconsin State Patrol Traffic Reconstruction Unit is investigating.

The roadway was closed for hours after the crash. Police logs said it wasn't until 6 p.m. that authorities re-opened Highway 164.
