6-Year-Old Dies After Crash At Highway 59 And West Avenue In Waukesha

A child has died from injuries sustained in a three-vehicle crash in Waukesha Wednesday evening, according to police.

WAUKESHA, WI — A 6-year-old child has died after three vehicles crashed Wednesday evening in Waukesha near Highway 59 and S. West Avenue, according to police.

Police and firefighters from Waukesha were called out to the intersection shortly after 8 p.m., a news release from police said. First responders brought the injured to Waukesha Memorial Hospital for advanced care, but a short time later, the child died from injuries sustained in the crash, police said.

Police logs noted that the crash was between a semi and two other vehicles. Police at first did not identify who was killed beyond their age.

Police said the drivers of each vehicle were all released from the scene and are cooperating with the investigation. The Waukesha Major Crash Task Force is leading an investigation with the Wisconsin State Patrol.

In an emailed statement to media, Waukesha Police Captain Dan Baumann wrote "This incident was tragic on all levels. Our hearts go out to the family who has lost this child. In the same breath, we also send our love and support to our Police Officers and Fire Fighters that handled the scene and were present and tended to the child. It goes without saying that this impacts the community as a whole."
