61 Citations Written During Targeted Traffic Enforcement In Waukesha
Waukesha police said nearly 200 traffic stops were made in the past week during targeted enforcement on Highway 59.
WAUKESHA, WI — Police wrote 61 citations during a four-day targeted traffic enforcement initiative on Highway 59 in Waukesha County recently.
The Waukesha Police Department conducted the enforcement from Tuesday through Friday with the help of Wisconsin State Police, New Berlin Police, and the Waukesha Sheriff's Office in the area of Summit Avenue and Meadowbrook Road, from Highway 318 through Highway 59 until Moreland Boulevard, according to a news release from Waukesha police.
Of the 194 traffic stops, 61 citations were issued, police said. Police also inspected 123 trucks, which led to 21 commercial vehicles being put out of service. Altogether, 327 warnings were issued, police said.

When targeted enforcement is conducted, law enforcement resources are put toward specific areas or behaviors in an effort to reduce traffic violations and improve safety. Police said the goal is to deter dangerous driving and promote traffic law compliance.
"We have seen an increase in serious motor vehicle crashes, particularly along this targeted area. We felt the need for a robust response was necessary," police said in a news release. "We want to educate the public right now. Wear your seat belt, don’t be distracted, don’t drive impaired, and don’t speed."

"When drivers take personal responsibility for their actions on the road, they contribute to a
safer driving environment for themselves and others," police said. "By following traffic laws and avoiding dangerous behaviors, they reduce the risk of accidents and injuries, which can have
devastating consequences for everyone involved."
