Local students received special achievement awards at the University of Wisconsin-Waukesha's spring commencement May 17.
Steven McCartney, Waukesha, was honored for contributing to Student Services. McCartney served as an orientation leader, a role in which he gave tours of the UW-Waukesha campus to new students and conducted ice breaking activities. "(Orientation leaders) have had an opportunity to meet and great many students, and I know they are remembered by many of the students they have worked with over the past few years," said Courtney Trice, senior coordinator of advising and orientation.
Shawn Steinbrecher, Waukesha, was honored for contributing to Campus Crusade for Christ. Steinbrecher, who graduated magna cum laude, was an officer in the club."In addition to his academic honors, he did a fabulous job participating in this organization," said Courtney Trice, senior coordinator of advising and orientation. "I couldn't be prouder in him moving on this fall to finish his degree at UW-Madison."

Richard Braun, Waukesha, was honored for contributing to the Yoga Club and Future Educators Club. Braun served as president of the Future Educators Club.
Perry Carter Jr., Waukesha, was honored for contributing to the Yoga Club and Literary Club. "He was always ready to volunteer," said Shubhangi Stalder, professor of mathematics and Yoga club advisor. "His leadership skills and organizational skills are unmatched." Carter also served as an editor of The Windy Hill Review, UW-Waukesha's literary magazine. "He always did his job and most of everyone else's," said Greg Ahrenhoerster, associate professor of English.

Daniel Strandt, New Berlin, was honored for contributing to the Ballroom Dance Club. "Daniel is a worker who always jumps in to do whatever needs to be done," said English lecturer Michael Mattek, who praised Strandt for his part in making the new club a success.
Achievement awards are awarded to students nominated by campus staff and faculty for their significant contributions to student life. Many of them serve on committees, work for campus departments, and participate in student clubs. Only graduates are eligible for this award.
