Richard Sommers, of Waukesha, died on Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2012, at LindenGrove in Waukesha at the age of 93.
He was born in Kirksville, MO on July 25, 1919 the son of Orin and Vida (nee Miller) Sommers. Richard was a 1942 graduate of Marquette University with a degree in mechanical engineering. On Oct. 22, 1943 he married the former Lucile Lucht in Miami, FL; she preceded him in death on Nov. 27, 2010.
Richard proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II on the USS Kretschmer, a destroyer escort. He worked for Briggs and Stratton for many years retiring in 1984. He was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church. Richard very much enjoyed his friends and neighbors and he adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He will be sadly missed by his two sons: Larry Sommers of Pittsburgh, PA and James (Teresa) Sommers of Eagle; two grandchildren: Matthew (Melissa) Sommers of Littleton, CO and Kit (Tom) McFarland of Fredericksburg, VA; and four great-grandchildren: Avery and Charlotte Sommers and Annabelle and Evangeline McFarland. He is further survived by other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents and his wife Lucile, he was preceded in death by his brother Robert H. Sommers.
