The following local students have been named University of Wisconsin-Whitewater peer mentors:
- Andrea Lewinski, a junior social work major from Waukesha, Wis.
- Megan Tkachuk, a junior communication major from New Berlin, Wis.
UW-Whitewater peer mentors help new students become familiar with campus and set them up for social and academic success. After five weeks of training, they assist with Club U-Dub-Dub, a two-day freshmen orientation program, and New Student Seminar courses. Each mentor is assigned a group of new students to help them get comfortable with campus, participate in activities and build relationships.
"It's an amazing opportunity to help new students get connected to campus and feel comfortable with their surroundings," said Megan Knudson, student services specialist. "The position does require organization and interpersonal communication skills, but it's a great opportunity for anyone interested and supplies students with leadership skills they will use for the rest of their lives."
