WAUKESHA, WI — The man accused of driving his SUV through the 2021 Waukesha Christmas Parade, leaving six dead and dozens more injured, will be allowed to represent himself at trial, according to media reports.

Judge Jennifer Dorow made the ruling Wednesday afternoon, according to FOX6 News. The defendant, Darrell Brooks, also signed a waiver for his right to an attorney which his lawyers submitted to the court on Wednesday, online records showed. Brooks' jury trial is slated to begin on Monday.

During Wednesday's hearing, Dorow said Brooks "may possess some challenges" but that the court only had to find that Brooks was making the decision "freely" and "voluntarily," according to WISN12 News.
