Man May Not Have Heard Train's Approach Before Being Hit: Police

WAUKESHA, WI — A 33-year-old Chicago man is in serious condition after authorities say he was struck by a train in Waukesha on early Christmas Eve.

According to Waukesha Police call logs, officers and rescue personnel were called to the intersection of N. Grand Ave. and Millers Court at just after 4 a.m. on Dec. 24 after a Canadian National railway worker called police, saying their train struck a man who was on the tracks.

Police call logs stated the man was crossing the tracks prior to the collision. According to Waukesha Police, investigators believe the man was walking home after work and did not hear the train coming due to having in-ear headphones on. The accident is being investigated by the Waukesha Police Department and the Canadian National Railroad.

Police said the man's prognosis is not currently known, though his family has been notified of this incident.

According to a JSOnline report, the train's conductor saw the man on the tracks, however could not slow the train in time to prevent a collision. The man was transported to the ProHealth Waukesha Memorial Hospital while unconscious.

Patch is working to determine the man's condition and extent of his injuries.

According to Waukesha police call logs, the man was located on the north side of the tracks on the other side of La Estacion.
