Computer Glitch Sends Out Overdue Library Notices

An email was sent Wednesday to library users stating they have fines for materials returned two months ago.

A glitch with the countywide library computer system sent out overdue notices Wednesday to Waukesha Public Library users stating they have to pay fines for materials that were due back at the library in August.

“The CAFÉ Consortium was testing some new language in overdue notices with old data and accidentally sent out messages to our customers,” states a post on the Waukesha Reads Facebook page. “You can disregard notices sent out this morning for items that were due in August.”

The Pewaukee Library’s Facebook page also shows a similar message to its users.

  • Received three emails today-- myself, and two sons all had $50 fees. FREAKED me out!! Thank you Waukesha Patch for setting my mind at ease :)
  • Uh yeah, considering I knew I had returned the books! But I still went all around the house looking for them, knowing that I had returned them!
  • Was very freaked out when I saw I owed them $50.00 from three years ago, thankfully it was a glitch, but bummer for them having to deal with all of it.
  • I received one this morning and was so confused, because I was sure I returned those books.
