Crash Into Apartments Ends Waukesha Chase, Injures 3 Suspects: Police

A car caught fire after it crashed into an apartment complex early Sunday morning after a police chase in Waukesha, according to police.

WAUKESHA, WI — Three suspects were injured when their car crashed into an apartment building and then caught fire after a police pursuit in Waukesha early Sunday morning, according to a news release from police.

An officer first tried to pull the car over near Frame Park on East Moreland Boulevard around 1:11 a.m. but the suspects did not stop and instead drove recklessly through neighborhoods north of Moreland and south of Manhattan Drive, police said. Eventually, the driver lost control while trying to turn on White Rock Avenue and crashed into the Spring City Crossing apartment complex in the 1400 block of White Rock, police said.

Law enforcement used fire extinguishers on the car as it started on fire after the crash, the release said. Officers rescued the suspects from the car amid the flames while the Waukesha Fire Department was quick on scene to further handle the fire, injuries and building damage, the news release said.

Police said they arrested three men, aged 18, 21 and 30, after the crash. The car had been stolen out of Chicago, Illinois, police said, and all three suspects were taken to a hospital.

Residents of the apartment building initially had to evacuate because of smoke inside, police said, but none of them were injured and they were later allowed to return after the smoke was removed. Authorities estimated the property damages at around $20,000.
